DOWN HOME EXPANDING!

MAY 29th 2009-We are pleased to announce the completion of our store expansion. We have added another store front so now we actually have a street view which should make us much easier to find. We opened up the wall between the space we have been in for the past year and put in double french doors opening to the new counter area in front. We now have a high end ‘vault’ room seperate from the rest of the store, along with space for small concerts and classes. With the historic atmosphere of the Trolley Barn, the building we are located in, and Downtown Frankfort, we feel right at home, and are definately here to stay.

The Trolley Barn is so named because the 100+ year old building used to house the roundabout, where the trains would turn around in the old days, for the old Joliet Trolley Line that ran down Kansas Street right into the new store front. Besides expanding our selection of acoustic instruments, we are adding more group classes, and plan to host more workshops and in-store concerts, like the Greg Cahill/ Alan Munde, Masters of the 5 Banjo Concert on May 31st and the Steve Kaufman flatpicking weekend workshop and concert that was held in September and will be held again the same time this year and was a huge success thanks to Kidsworks Children’s Museum that shared their space with us to make it happen.

Stop by and see our selection of some truly amazing hand made acoustic instruments by some of the leading people in the industry, and watch us grow. Thanks for the support!

TOM SMITH SEEN PLAYING LIVE

Frankfort Bluegrass X-Press Oct.24th 2008

Tom Smith of Down Home Guitars, noted trailer guru and bicycle stuntman, was spotted for a rare live appearance this past Wednesday evening for open mic at Jenny’s Steak House down the block from Down Home Guitars. He reportedly blazed through licks, taught personally to him by the great teacher Steve Kaufman, on such tunes as Black Mt. Rag and Foggy Mountain. Also appearing with Tom were Ted “The Doc” Jefferson, and Steve Haberichter also of Down Home Guitars. Tom was quoted as saying,”I can be in the band without being in the band.”
